How is Sports Massage Different?

Sports massage or remedial massage is a deep tissue technique. It works by manipulating soft tissue using firm pressure to relieve muscle tension and adhesion’s within the muscle fibre.

The massage gets into the deeper underlying muscles of the body, not just the surface. Problem areas such as knots or sore spots are worked on to reduce pain or discomfort. Different pressures and techniques are used within the massage to target specific muscles and areas.

On your first appointment (1 hour) I will do a full assessment, looking at body and movement mechanics and posture to help identify any underlying factors that might be affecting you.

I’ll use a variety of tests for mobility, flexibility and strength to assess the nature of the injury if applicable. Then I will draw up and discuss a specific treatment plan for you.

The treatment will normally include Sports Massage to relieve tension from the relevant muscles attaching to the area. I’ll use specific stretches and massage techniques, along with small mobilisations if required. We will also practice some strengthening or stretching exercises to help improve the injury which you will need to continue with at home, I will email these to you to help you.
